TRAINING

Catching

Catching is one of the most demanding positions in baseball. A catcher must be a leader on the field—responsible not only for receiving pitches but also for controlling the game, managing pitchers, and defending against base runners. Baseball catching training is designed to build the physical skills, mental toughness, and leadership qualities required to excel behind the plate.

  • Receiving & Framing – Soft hands, strong wrist control, and subtle movements to give pitchers the best chance at strikes.
  • Blocking Skills – Proper technique and reaction drills to keep pitches in front and prevent runners from advancing.
  • Throwing Mechanics – Quick transfer, footwork, and accuracy to control the running game.
  • Game Management – Calling pitches, working with pitchers, and reading situations to guide defensive strategy.
  • Leadership & Communication – Serving as the “field general,” directing teammates, and maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Conditioning & Durability – Building strength, flexibility, and endurance to withstand the physical demands of catching.
